Moss Safari at New Scientist Live

I spent Saturday with Wendy from Vitta Education at New Scientist Live at Excel London last weekend. We watched some great talks and visited some fascinating stands. It’s a great day for all the family, I loved seeing so many children with their families at the talks and at the science stands.

On Monday – the Schools Day – Quekett Microscopical Club kindly hosted Moss Safari Live. The microscope and camera were supplied by Vitta Education and are featured in the video below. We had lots of groups of primary, secondary and Further Education students, teachers, school science technicians and families come past and hear the stories of the microscopic Big Five. We did eventually find a tardigrade and tardigrade ‘ghosts’ (shed skins) much to the delight of returning spectators. I’m a member of Quekett – it’s for people at all levels of expertise – novice to expert. Lots of support, expertise and magazines. Why not join yourself? Link here.

Podcast appearance

I was invited on to the invertebrate podcast Grubbing in the Filth, yes that’s what it’s called, to talk about Moss Safari. I really enjoyed talking to the eloquent host, Tom Sharpe, about the microscopic Big Five and the intrigue of doing Moss Safaris. Have a listen and subscribe for all the episodes on other fascinating invertebrates.

Moss Safari Collaboration with LaBLiFe.

Moss Safari is now an Ambassador for LaBLiFe. So far I have done two videos with them and we have some exciting projects lined with them – some secret.

The have sent me a lovely compound microscope to use for Moss Safari and I they will be releasing videos of me ‘sciencing’ with it. Learn the basics of microscopy with me through Moss Safari. Watch out for the videos.

Hosting a Moss Safari Event

If you would like a Moss Safari Live event ‘zoomed’ in to your event, get in touch and let me know. Virtual Moss Safari’s are proving popular at the moment. It’s cheap, quick, easy to set up, environmentally friendly and a great way to see the microscopic world. Some events even do their own Moss Safari after watching ours.

I’m also happy to consider face to face events – just get in touch to ask for details.
