Biology Week 2023: Are you doing a Moss Safari?

For Biology Week this year, Moss Safari is running it’s successful online sharing event, however with the added incentive of a prize for the best find. Find – Share – Win. Read more below.

Biology Week 2023 is next week (16-20 October), run by the Royal Society of Biology. Last year we ran a successful #MossSafariID hashtag on Twitter for schools to share their Moss Safari finds. ‘

This year we are doing Moss Safari: Find-Share-Win!

Moss Safari has recently become an Ambassador for LaBLiFe. They have a Biology Week feature in their latest magazine. They have also kindly offered a prize for the best Moss Safari find using the #mosssafari and #biologyweek hashtags on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram during Biology Week.

How to take part

Do a Moss Safari – just squeeze some water from wet moss onto a microscope slide and observe at x 40 and x 100. Free resources including instructions and identification sheets are available here.

Find

Find some organisms, take photos of them using a mobile phone or camera.

Share

Upload the images on X (Twitter), Facebook or Instagram with details of location and your identification or question. Add the two hashtags #biologyweek and #mosssafari.

Win

At the end of Biology Week, the images will be judged and the ‘best’ find will win this amazing prize courtesy of Vitta Education plus LaBLiFe merch.

Small Print

Moss Safari will make a judgement of the ‘best’ find based on the organism found, rather than necessarily the quality of the photograph. Moss Safari’s decision is final.

To be eligible, the photo must be accompanied by both hashtags #biologyweek and #mosssafari on X (Twitter), Instagram @Moss_Safari tagged or Moss Safari Facebook Page.

Winners will be contacted during the week beginning 23 October 2023.
