About Me

Hi, I’m Andy Chandler-Grevatt.

I live just outside Brighton, East Sussex, England. I live in a house that has a moss growing on the roof. When this moss falls from the roof, I pick it up, soak it, and squeeze it, and then observe the organisms living in it using my microscope.

I see myself as a science learner and educator. I have a degree and a Masters in Biological Sciences and a doctorate in science education. I was a secondary school teacher for just over a decade and now my main job is to train new science teachers. I also write and edit books for science teachers and learners, mainly for the 11-19 age range.

This website is a place to record my hobby of using a microscope at home to observe and learn about the microorganisms that live in Moss. I call this a ‘Moss Safari’ because each drop of water from moss I observe is like going on a safari with the hope of seeing a range of specific organisms, but also always contains a surprise sighting.

Join me on my adventures in the field (under a glass slide).
